Prominent Ear Aesthetics (Otoplasty)

Prominent ear aesthetics is applied to our patients who have excessive angulation between the ear and the skull, faintness in the ear fold or earlobe disorders, in order to obtain an ear that is compatible with the skull and looks good. Ear development is usually completed by the age of 6 years. For this reason, the intervention can be done in preschool so that children can make a confident start. However, this operation can also be performed on adult patients who did not care about the appearance of the ear or did not have the opportunity to correct it, at any time.

The most appropriate operation planning is made for the anatomy and cartilage structure of the ear, taking into account the patient's medical history, age, size of the deformation in the ear, etc., and personal conditions. The operation can be performed with local anesthesia or, if necessary, with general anesthesia (adult panic attack patient or pediatric patient). In the operation, which lasts about 1 hour, cartilage removal and/or cartilage shaping with stitches are performed according to the patient's needs with incisions behind the ear. At the end of the procedure, self-melting stitches can be placed behind the ear and permanent stitches can be used.

The patient is usually discharged on the same day, depending on the severity of the procedure. After discharge, it is recommended that our patients do not lie on their ears for a while and wear a tennis band for 2-3 weeks.
